Les Origines (1869-1896)
Le père, Robert Booth, est employé à la Worcester Royal Porcelain Co Ltd comme "China painter" ainsi que cela figure dans le recensement de 1871. Le couple qu'il forme avec Elizabeth vient d'avoir deux enfants, Walter et Arthur. L'aîné suit la carrière de son père et, à peine âgé de 13 ans, il rentre à la Worcester School of Art, où il se fait remarquer dans la section " modern drawing". Il poursuit sa formation comme apprenti, et reçoit un prix en peinture(1885).
Royal Worcester
C'est dans le cadre de sa formation qu'il va participer, à la Royal Porcelain Works Institute, à un spectacle où, peut-être pour la premières fois en public, il va exécuter quelques " conjuring tricks ". C'est à partir de 1889 que Walter Booth, toujours à Worcester, va commencer à proposer ses spectacles de magie :

On retrouve ainsi son nom à l'occasion de différentes fêtes ou célébrations et de façon plus rare des informations sur la nature des spectacles organisés et des numéros de Walter Robert Booth..
Lors du recensement de 1891, Walter figure comme "China Decorator", alors que ses frères sont "Printer. Compositor" (Arthur) et "Photographic Printer" (Albert) et sa soeur, Emma, travaille comme "Chine Paintress".
Lors d'une cérémonie organisée par le Royal Porcelain Works Cycle Club, le journaliste offre quelques explications :
ROYAL PORCELAIN WORKS CYCLE CLUB.
On Friday last the members of this club assembled at the Royal Porcelain Works Institute on the occasion of the distribution of prizes gained during the past season. The committee arranged that the programme should be preceded by a tea, to which about 50 members sat down. […]
Resuming the programme Mr. Lewis again obliged with a piano solo, Mr. Roberts with a reading, and Messrs. W.M. Binns, F. Farmer, and W. Bradley with songs. A very enjoyable evening was brought to a close entertainment by Mr. Walter Booth. This took the form of a comic sketch of a village entertainment. The curate, the ventriloquist, and the conjuror were very cleverly caricatured with the aid of sketches on the black board. Mr. Booth's performance was certainly the event of the evening and entirely deserved the very hearty reception accorded it. Votes thanks to the president of the club and the entertainers terminated the proceedings.

Il n'en abandonne pas pour autant la peinture sur toile ou sur porcelaine. Il est encore à Worcester jusqu'à la fin de l'année 1895 et continue de proposer des sketches ou des numéros :
SANSOME WALK BAPTIST CHAPEL-The annual tea in connection with the First Young Men's Bible Class, Sansome Walk Baptist Sunday Schools, was held in the schoolroom.... Mr Walter R. Booth gave an amusing lecture entitled "Skit ans sketch," which he illustrated with sketches on a black-board.

Les photographies animées avec William David Slade et J. Leach (1897)
Si l'on ignore précisément à partir de quel moment Walter Booth s'est intéressé aux photographies animées, on peut dire que dès le mois de mai 1897, il participe à des spectacles où les vues sont partie prenante. Il fait alors équipe avec William David Slade, lui-même originaire de Worcester :

PUBLIC HALL-M Sedalier on Saturday and Monday evenings exhibited Slade’s Animated Photographs. The evening’s amusement was interspersed with caricature and ventriloquial sketches by Mr Walter R. Booth.

Le retour de W. D. Slade à Cheltenham, la ville où il réside, marque aussi la fin de la collaboration avec Walter Robert Booth. Cette séparation est probablement due au souhait de ce dernier de rejoindre l'une des équipes que le magicien prestidigitateur David Devant met en place à partir du mois d'août 1897 pour parcourir le Royaume Uni afin d'organiser des projections cinématographiques.
De son côté, il semble que Booth ait aussi participé, au moins de façon occasionnelle, avec la troupe conduite par J. Leach. C'est ainsi le cas à Bala en septembre 1897.
Les deux saisons avec David Devant (1897-1899)
C'est à partir du mois d'août 1896 que le magicien prestidigitateur David Devant met en place une structure afin d'exploiter les différents théâtrographes ou animatographes qu'il a achetés à Robert-William Paul. Pour cela, il organise trois équipes qui vont parcourir le Royaume Uni pendant des mois. Booth intègre ainsi l'un des groupes qui organise des soirées en Grande-Bretagne. On peut situer le début de sa participation au mois de novembre 1897 : Kidderminster (novembre 1897), Weston-super-Mare (1er et 2 décembre 1897), Bognor (décembre 1897), Portsmouth (20-23 décembre 1897), Bristol (27, 29, 31 décembre 1897 et 1er janvier 1998), Maidenhead (31 janvier 1898), Bath (10-15 janvier 1898), Southampon (17-22 janvier 1898), Reading (24-29 janvier 1898), Winchester (3 février 1898), Bournemouth (février 1898), Trowbridge (18-19 février 1898), Cardiff (fin février-début mars 1898), Llanelly (mars 1898)...
Si Booth n'hésite pas, sans doute avec une incontestable adresse à faire alterner ses manipulations avec les projections animées, rien ne permet de savoir si son intérêt pour le cinématographe, tant avec Slade qu'avec Devant, est réel. Aucune information ne permet même de savoir s'il s'intéresse à la photographie et à ses progrès. Pourtant, au cours de l'été 1898, il va tourner plusieurs vues animées, à Eastbourne, à l'occasion de la pose de la première pierre du William Terriss Memorial Lifeboat House :
LAUNCH THE LIFEBOAT.
In the presence of a large concourse of spectators, some of whom found shelter from the rays of a July sun in a capacious marquee in the Wish Tower Grounds, the ceremony of laying the foundation stone of the William Terriss Memorial Lifeboat House was performed on Saturday afternoon by her Grace the Mayoress of Eastbourne (the Duchess of Devonshire.) The presence in the enclosure of guard of honour of the Eastbourne College Cadets, the band of the Sussex Artillery Militia, the Lifeboat men in their caps and cork belts, the aldermen in their robes, the Fire Brigade in their blue uniforms and brass helmets, and the Eastbourne Rowing Club Senior Crew with their new galley all served to render the scene an interesting and memorable one. There are few places where a crowd of fashionably dressed people can be seen to greater advantage. Needless to say our leading local photographers were busy, and they have secured some excellent pictures. And for the first time in the history of Eastbourne a cinematograph operator was at work. Mr. Horace Chester was present on behalf of Mr. David Devant, who is to appear at the Eastbourne Town Hall next week. Mr. Walter R. Booth, who manipulated the cinematograph apparatus, was able take succession of pictures which will enable those who could not attend the function to see the “animated photographs" which will ready in time for Mr. Devant’s entertainment. We are looking forward to them with considerable interest. Mr. Booth, we noticed, had one of his hands bandaged up; and the history of his mishap is on this wise: Desiring to obtain a picture of an explosion, he made the needful preparations. But some slight hitch occurred. The explosive did not “go off” at the expected moment. As he was examining it to see what was amiss he met with an experience similar to that which befalls the man who goes to look for an escape of gas. There was an unexpected explosion, and Mr. Booth was fortunate in escaping with some alight injuries to his hand.

Ce reportage, abusivement attribué parfois à David Devant, marque, pour l'instant, les débuts de Walter R. Boots comme cinématographiste. A-t-il poursuivi cette activité pendant les mois suivants ? On ne peut l'exclure. Il est probable, en outre, que David Devant ait assumé souvent le rôle d'éditeur de films.
Par la suite, il continue à faire équipe avec Devant, et on le retrouve en particulier à Ramsgate (août), Folkestone (août-septembre 1898), Sittingbourne (octobre 1898), Bournemouth (décembre 1898), Clifton (26 au 31 décembre 1898), Exeter (janvier 1899), Harrogate (janvier 1899)...

Au bout de deux saisons, Walter Robert Booth va mettre un terme à sa collaboration avec Devant.
La collaboration avec Robert-William Paul ([octobre] 1899-janvier 1901)
À la fin de cette collaboration avec David Devant, Walter Robert Booth va faire passer dans la presse londonienne plusieurs annonces afin de proposer ses services.

C'est probablement vers le début du second semestre 1899 que Walter R. Booth va se rapprocher de Robert-William Paul. Cette collaboration se retrouve dans les différents rôles interprétés pas le premier dans la production du second. S'il apparaît dans son propre rôle de prestidigitateur, on le retrouve également comme acteur comique.

Outre ses inteprétations, Walter Robert Booth participe également à une tournée avec Robert-William Paul et l'humoriste Oldbury Brough au cours de laquelle est présentée une série exceptionnelle de films, Army Life à la gloire de l'armée britannique. Ils se rendent ainsi dans de nombreux villes afin d'exploiter le long documentaire : Norwich (2-4 novembre 1900), Ipswich (5-6 novembre 1900), Colchester (7 novembre 1900), Leamington (novembre 1900), Kettering (décembre 1900), Portsmouth (décembre 1900)...

Et après... (1906-1938)
En 1911, le couple et ses deux enfants sont recensés à Isleworth dans le Middlesex. Walter R. Booth figure alors comme "Producer of Bioscope Pictures"
The "Aerial Anarchist" film, with which Kineto, Ltd. are doing such good business just now, is the work of Mr. W. R. Booth, whose reputation in the matter of trick films is so deservedly high. THE PICTURE HOUSE
Entertainment of the best sort ois provided at the Picture House this week. The principal films is entitled 2The Bomb Boy," in which the chief part is played by ernest Truex. The various scenes provide delicious humour, and the story displays love on the part of a charming lady with men of different characters and spheres of life.
