Feignant. |

One of the new scenes showed a group of women of Brittany burning field waste. At the side was burning heap of leaves and stalks and at the other another pile from which the fire was fed. At intervals a woman emptied a barrow full of fuel upon the pile and two other women stirred up the burning heap. No flames were seen, indicating that the camera had not caught them, but the smoke rose naturally as the mass was attired up and floated upward, growing less and less and finally disappearing. The women’s behavior was as if they were unaware that their picture was being taken, and they attended to their tasks as if their wages depended on it. In this respect this scene this scene was in contrast to some of the others. |

There is a photograph of burning leaves in a park in which the naturalness of the wreathing and curling smoke is a wonder. The smallest movements are faithfully reproduced, even to the fluttering of leaves and smoke in the wind. |
