Coolgarie Miner, Coolgarie, jeudi 7 janvier 1897, p. 2.
The new startling electric wonder. Edison's Cinematographe. which during the past few months has been the rage of the Eastern capitals, and has caused such a furore in Perth, has now arrived in our midst. Extensive preparations are being made by Mr. Frank St. Hill for a grand initial opening at the new Mechanics' Institute to-morrow evening, when two separate exhibitions will be given, the first at 8 p.m., and the second commencing at. 9 p.m. The Cinematographe performance stands alone—nothing like it has ever been seen or been shown before. The audience seat themselves in the usual manner, and are immediately introduced to famous persons and celebrated artists as they appear nightly in their professional occupations on the reverse side of the globe. Not a stationary view, but as actual, living, moving, breathing individuals. To give an idea of its illimitable possibilities, the Melbourne Cup was taken, and shown on the stage in Sydney. We have not the slightest doubt that the public of Coolgardie will be quick to recognise it as one of the greatest scientific wonders the world has yet seen. The boxplan will open at 12 noon at Mr. Stein's, Rayley-street.

The "Old English Fayre" Company, after a successful run of 14 weeks in Perth, is about to visit Coolgardie, and will open in the Theatre Royal on Tuesday evening next. The company includes such well-known and favorite artists as the Misses Millie Herbert, Ettie Williams, Madge Stagpole, and Ida Holbein, and Messrs. Bob Bell, George Jones, and Jim Mooney, besides others. The programme will be of the variety order, though many novelties will be thrown in which will give it additional interest. Among these may be mentioned Lumiere's cinematographe, which will display the famous living pictures and the running of the Melbourne Cup won by Newhaven. Also the great acrobat Ouda will perform some of the marvellous feats which have made him famous. Mr. Mason arrived yesterday morning to make preparations for Ouda's performance.

There was a fair attendance at the entertainment given by the Olde Englyshe Fayre Company at the Theatre Royal last evening, although the presence of a strong counter-attraction in town probably militated against the chances of a continuance of those full houses which have so far characterised the company's performances. The programme submitted was a good one, and met with the entire approval of those present, the principal attraction being Lumiere's Cinematographe, the pictures exhibited, some 15 in number, being all military subjects, and each-representation called forth enthusiastic rounds of applause, many repetitions being vigorously demanded.

Ye Olde Englyshe Fayre Company reopened for a short season of two nights at the Theatre Royal last night, after having had a very successful innings at Kalgoorlie. Their programme was of the usual high standard of excellence, but the audience was not so large as the show deserve, probably owing to demands recently put upon the purses of the amusement-loving public by the Fitzgeralds' Circus, which was a phenomenal draw last week [...] Ouda is undoubtedly one of the finest gymnasts that has been seen in these parts, and the Lumiere Cinematographe is a complete entertainment in itself. To-night the company will make their final appearance on the present tour, and Mf. Bell announces that he will give away souvenir copies of that popular refrain, "Pat Malon," which as a consequence, will be heard in the streets until it is worn threadbare by amateur repetition. A new set of living pictures will also be exhibited by the Cinematographe.
