ROCKHAMPTON
Jean-Claude SEGUIN
Rockhampton est une ville du Queensland (Australie).
1895
Le Kinetoscope (East street, 27 septembre-[3] octobre 1895)
L'arrivée du kinetoscope de Charles MacMahon est annoncée vers la fin du mois de septembre :
The KInetoscope.
The latest entertainment which has arrived in Rockhampton is the Kinetoscope, one of Edison's most recent inventions. It is under the management of Mr Charles M'Mahon, who was a passenger from the north yesterday. The invention is described aptly as being to the eye what the phonograph is to the ear, and the exhibitions are advertised to commence to-morrow afternoon in the premises in East street, lately occupied by Mr E. S. Lucas, immediately opposite the Argus Chambers.
The Daily Northern Argus, Rockhampton, jeudi 26 septembre 1895, p. 3.
Le kinetoscope rencontre le succès :
The wonderful kinetoscope, exhibited in East-street by Mr. Charles MacMahon, continues to be attractive to the public. the new figure, Anna Bell, the skirt dancer, is particularly pleasing, the movements being rapid and graceful. The phonograph, on the same premises, also affords amusement to visitors.

Le Kinetophone (East street, 4 octobre 1895)
À partir du 4 octobre, outre le kinetoscope, Charles MacMahon inaugure le kinetophone :
THE KINETOPHONE.
Mr. MacMahon yesterday presented to the public an even more remarkable invention than the kinetoscope, in Edison's kinetophone. This is really a combination of the kinetoscope and the phonograph. The kinetoscope appealed only to the sense of sight, the gestures and movements of the Indians and Europeans sitting in conference were seen, but nothing was heard of their discussion. The kinetophone appeals to the sense of hearing as well as that of sight. Yesterday there were three subjects on view. In the first the great music-hall singer. Mr. A. Chevalier sang one of his inimitable coster songs, "Mrs ‘Enery 'Awkins." It was really a marvel. Mr. Chevalier is seen exactly as he appeared on the stage. He starts singing, and while every note and indeed every word can be heard with the utmost distinctness, the movements and gestures of the singer are seen as clearly as ever they were witnessed by those in the stalls at the music halls where he appears. The next subject was Madame Patey singing a verse of "The Holy City." This impression was taken in Melbourne when Madame Patey was singing there. It was as perfect as the other.
