Serving Rations to the Indians nº 1

Taken at the Indian Reservation, Ignacio, Colorado, and shows a number of Ute Indian squaws leaving the reservation issue house, after having been served with their semi-monthly allowance of rations. The superstition with which these people regarded the camera is remarkable and this is plainly perceptible in their frantic attempts to escape from the vision of the lens. The only buck in the scene rides away, followed by a very small papoose on another horse. A large number of lean, lanky looking dogs, which are always a part of an Indian encampment, are seen moving about. The picture is taken at short range and the figures show life size, the features of the Indians being particularly clear.
