The Sea Lions'Home

A scene taken near the Golden Gate Beach and shows the sea lions in their wild state. The water surrounding the rocks is considered to be the roughest on the Pacifie Coast, and none but the stoutest boats can live there in sufficiently close to the rocks to secure a picture. Through the kindness of Maj. T.J. Blackeney, Sup't U.S. Life Saving Service, our photographers were furnished specially with a life boat commanded by Capt. Geo. H. Varney, Golden Gate Station, from which this picture was obtained. The sea lions are clearly shown, some lying on the rocks, others swimming about in the water and others diving off the rocks into the water. The rugged rocks in the background and the water breaking against the rocks combine to make an attractive subject.
