Les Living Pictures des frères Downey (25 avril 1899)
James John et Frederick Downey présentent des vues animées au Theatre Royal au début du mois de janvier:
ENTERTAINMENT AT CHESTER-LE-STREET.
On Tuesday evening, chiefly through the instrumentality of Mr Harry Tomkins, "Downey's living Pictures" were exhibited at Chesster-le-Street. When Master Harry Wardle opened the entertainment by splendidly rendering a piano solo, the Church Institute, were the concert was held, was quite full. The second item was a humorous song "All life like," sung by Mr Harry Tomkins, followed by recitations entitled "Our reciters," and "The lifeboat," by Miss Mary Tully and Mr Harry Tomkins respectively. The first series of living photographs came after this, the title being "The passion play," from which the following pictures were shown:—" The birth of Christ," "Jesus in the Temple," "Jesus restoring life to the widow's son," "Let the little children come unto me," "Entry into Jerusalem," "The Last Supper," "Gethsemane," "The Agony," "The Treason," "On the way to Calvary,"' "Golgotha," "The Cross," "Descent from the Cross," and "The Resurrection ." This concluded the first part of the programme and Mr Tomkins began the second part of reciting" Prince,' which was followed by a humorous musical sketch, entitled " After the honeymoon; , the parts being taken by Mr Tomkins and Miss Tully. A further selection of living photographs was then shown, the pictures including "Fire Brigade Review at Windsor," "Lauding of the Cambridge Crew after the University boot race," scenes at Henley regatta, a Rugby football match, scenes from the Newcastle Temperance Festival, Egyptian Brigade, Panorama of the Nile from a gun boat, Miller and the Sweep, scenes from "The Corsican Brothers," "The bathers," "Beggar and the policeman," "The bogie man," "Switchback scenes," "Ranji" and "Abel" at the wickets, and "Ranji" at the nets. Mr Tomkins having given another specimen of his humour in the song, "How I saved my life," a most enjoyable entertainment was brought to a close with a domestic sketch, "He and she," Mr Harry Tomkins being "He," and Tully "She."
