Le cinematographe des frères Downey (The Alhambra, <26> octobre 1897)
James John et Frederick Downey présentent des vues animées en octobre. Certaines d'entre elles sont des vues locales :
THE ALHAMBRA.
At the Alhambra Theatre and Opera House this week the "legitimate" has given place to variety entertainment of exceptional excellence. First of all comes Messrs Downey’s cinematographe. The pictures are of considerable local interest, including as they do views of Sunderland Bridge, a panorama of North Shields taken from boat, the launch of a steamer at Stockton, a sideways launch at Sunderland, views of the Sunderland and South Shields race meeting, as well as views of the Jubilee procession at London, &c. Charles Seel, “The droll,” appears in all his latest successes, "Storm Brewing,” "My Brother,” "What a good thing for me,” &c. He last night delighted the house and received repeated encores. The four Lomases give a most amusing and clever gymnastic sketch, entitled “Troubles in Monkeyland.” The Leggetts are very good in their sketch, “The Maid of Athens.” Virto, the man of many instruments, gives a clever and diverting musical entertainment; and the other names the bill are those of Maude Needham, serio and ballad vocalist, the two Cecils, duettists and dancers, and Milner Verren, male soprano. The orchestra play some very pretty selections.
