Le Cinématographe de Nornam Lockeyr (21 janvier 1898)
L'astronome britannique Joseph Norman Lockyer se rend à Colombo pour observer l'éclipse solaire:
GRANDE-BRETAGNE
Mission. — Une mission anglaise ayant à sa tête sir Norman Lockyer vient de partir pour Colombo (Ceylan) afin d'observer l'éclipse de soleil qui sera visible le 21 janvier prochain en Afrique et en Asie. Parmi les appareils scientifiques qu'emporte celte mission se trouve un énorme cinématographe qui donnera cinq à six clichés à la seconde. Ou estime ainsi pouvoir se rendre compte exactement des modifications qui se produiront dans le cercle solaire pendant la courte durée d'une éclipse. On pourra aussi donner dans les salons anglais à la prochaine season des représentations à domicile du phénomène observé à Ceylan.

Le Cinematograph des Hellers (Public Hall, 26-31 décembre 1901)
Les Hellers ont introduit dans leur spectacle un cinematograph qu'ils présentent vers la fin du mois de décembre.

THE HELLER COMPANY.-These entertainers, assisted by their select company, will make their first appearance in Colombo at the Public Hall for a season of six nights, commencing Thursday, the 26th instant. The company bring with them a good reputation from the Australasian Colonies, where the press has given some very good notices of the combination. Professor G. W. Heller is credited with being a wonderful illusionist and entertainer, and Madame Mandeena, a clever psychonotic medium, Miss Vera Havlock, a graceful danseuse, Mr. Harold Carlyle, baritone vocalist, and Mr. J. E. A. Dodds, musical director. The special illusions promised for the opening night are a "Marvellous Bicycle Ride in Mid Air"-the lady rides upside down across the stage and also does somersaults, &c.- and "The Beggar's Dream," a dramatic illusion without words. The beggar maid, M'dlle Mandeena and Mephistopheles, Mr. Heller, "Nanko," the Japanese mystery, will form another special item. A series of cinematograph pictures will also be shown, the machinery for which is spoken of as first-class. The plan of seats is on view at the Apothecaries Co. and during the holidays, at the Public Hall. The prices will be R3, 2 & 1.

A CINEMATOGRAPH EXHIBITION.-Mr. J. J. Bottini, who has got out a fin cinematograph, gave an exhibition yesterday evening at St. Sebastian's school room, Hultsdorf, to a large gathering of p[...] The living pictures exhibited included representations of the death-bed and lying-in-state of Pope Leo XIII. A fine portrait of Pope Pius X concludes a very good display, the enjoyment of which [was] enhanced by a gramophone.

MOVING PICTURES.
Messrs. A. Jansen and K. Ancora, exhibitors and manufacturers of moving pictures, arrived in Colombo to-day from an extended tour in the Far East, and intend opening here early next week. They are on a trip round the world, and go from here to Calcutta. Besides giving exhibitions, thay take cinematograph pictues of interesting events during their tour.

THE EDISON CINEMATOGRAPH Co.-Messrs A. Jansen and K. Ancora, manufacturers and exhibitors of moving pictures, gave an exhibition at the Bijou Theatre, Bristol Hotel, last night. There was a fairly large attendance and the pictures were received with much applause. There were nineteen items on the programme, among them being "Cinderella and the glass slipper," the "American prize fight: Fiztsimmons vs. Jefferies, "The battle of Mafeking" and "A voyage to the moon," which terminated the proceedings.

THE CINEMATOGRAPH SHOW AT ST. BENEDICT'S INSTITUTE.
The Cinematograph exhibition, which took place at the hall of St. Benedict's Institute on Saturday and Sunday evening last, was pronounced a great success. Not with stantding the short notice, there was a large attendance, and the exhibition of the scenes in the life of Christ and the "Passion Play," as performed in Oberammergau, was much appreciated. There was a change of programme on the second night, when the "Seven Castles of the Devil" were thrown on the screen. Mr. P.L.C. Moraes, who is responsible for the show, is to be congratulated on the successful way it went off.-Cor.
