Le nom de James Moodie apparaît en mars 1894, associé avec le Phonograph présenté à Mogo :

Quite a treat, was provided here on last Friday night, by Mr. Moodie, with the Phonograph. The hall was engaged and a dance held, and at various intervals, selections were given with the phonograph; also songs by local performers. The company broke up about 1/2 past 2 o'clock, everyone vowing the had never had a better "bob's worth."

On retrouve son nom, en avril 1896, alors qu'il exploite un kinetophone à Bathurst :
EDISON'S LATEST WONDER
Mr. James Moodie will have the pleasure of Latest Wonder, placing Edison's latest wonder, the "Kinetophone" before visitors to the Robertson and Mose Vale shows, which was shown for the first time at the Berry show, H,E. the Governor and party spending nearly an hour in examining same. The kinetophone is an elaborate combination of the phonograph and kinetoscope, reproducing living scenes in action with accompanying sounds. These machines are the first and only ones of the kind in Australia, several scenes are represented, including a New York dancer, Boxing Bout, Bucking Broncho, Blacksmith's Forge, a group of Scotchmen. For the convenience of those unable to see these wonderful machines at the show, they will, during the evenings of the shows be exhibited at some convenient place in the towns of Robertson and Moss Vale.

THE CINEMATOGRAPH.
One of the most marvellous developments of photography as a fine art is the kinetoscope, and an equally astonishing advancement upon that is the cinematograph, so far, perhaps, "the crowning achievement of man's genius," as it has been styled. On Monday afternoon Messrs. Frank St. Hill and Moodie gave an exhibition of the cinematograph in the Theatre Royal, under the direction of Mr. Wybert Reeve, in whose name the invitations were issued, and the spectators must have gained a fair idea of the wonderful capabilities of the invention, albeit the presentation was rather erratic and disappointing owing to the fact that too much light was let into the building, thereby causing the figures thrown upon the screen to appear fainter than they would have been under more satisfactory arrangements.

Par la suite, Frank St. Hill se rend à Fremantle, puis Coolgardie, Kalgoorlie, The Boulder et Kanowna. En février 1897, il fait passer une annonce où il cherche un partenaire pour l'exploitation de son cinématographe :

Sans doute n'est-il pas parvenu à trouver un collaborateur puisque dans les mois qui suivent il fait passer des annonces pour le "Salon Cinématographe" dont il semble être le seul propriétaire : Hay (juillet), Corowa (août)...
Biographe (septembre-octobre 1898)
En septembre 1898, le nom de James Moodie apparaît associé à celui de Frank St. Hill, ils ont alors formé une nouvelle compagnie la St Hill and Moodie's Company qui exploite un biographe.

La passion d'Oberammergau (1899)
En octobre 1899, James Moodie donne une séance privée de cinématographie au Century Hall :
ANIMATED PHOTOGRAPHY.
THE PASSION PLAY OF OBER-AMMERGAU.
Mr James Moodie gave a private view of cinematograph films, in the Centenary Hall, on Monday, representing the life and passion of Jesus Christ as portrayed in the Passion play of Ober-Ammergau. The series embraced 13 views, opening with the scene inside the crib, the Virgin watching near the infant Jesus. Some of the most remarkable incidents in the divine drama of the Redemption were shown, including the flight into Egypt, the entry into Jerusalem, betrayal by Judas, the resurrection of Lazarus, the Holy Supper, arrest of Jesus Christ, the scourging, the crown of thorns, the crucifixion, Calvary, the burial of Christ and the resurrection. The representations were justly considered a marvel of the photographic art, so natural that they appeared before the vision with the vividness of a dream, and left an indelible impression on the mind. There was an absence of the hurried motions usually noticed in cinematographe views. The slowest gesture of the actor was harmonious with one's conception of the original. The Rev. W. G. Taylor, at the request of Mr. Moodie, made a few descriptive remarks regarding the action of the drama, the solemnity of which was accompanied with suitable organ music. At the conclusion a number of light and interesting pictures of animated photography were shown. Messrs. Baker and Rouse manipulated the cinematographe.

Il s'agit pour lui de commercialiser cette série cinématographique de ces festivités qui n'ont lieu que tous les quatre ans à Oberammergau en Haute-Bavière. Compte tenu du fait que cet événement n'a eu lieu qu'en 1896 et 1900, les Passions qui circulent alors ont été soit tournées ailleurs comme celle de Horitz, soit reconstituées. Dans une annonce à peine postérieure James Moodie met en vente la série de films :

Bioscope (mars-mai 1900)
De nouveau, pendant plus d'un an, le nom de James Moodie disparaît de la presse australienne avant de réapparaître, associé à celui de Frank St. Hill, en mars 1900.

Wargraph (juin-septembre 1900)
Au cours des mois qui suivent, l'appareil change de nom pour prendre celui de Wargraph. Ces changements à répétition ne signifie pas pour autant qu'il y ait un changement de cinématographe. Les deux hommes, Frank St. Hill et James Moodie continuent à collaborer.

Warograph (février-août 1901)
Après une nouvelle interruption de quelques mois, Frank St. Hill et James Moodie vont exploiter un "warograph", appellation à peine modifiée de la précédente dénomination.

Ils commencent leur nouvelle tournée par Armidale en février, puis sillonnent l'état de Nouvelle Galles du Sud jusqu'en août ; ils se trouvent alors à Gunbar. Par la suite, on perd la trace de James Moodie.
