Return of Lord Roberts

Return of Lord Roberts

This picture is in three tableaux, the first portion depicting Lord Roberts entering his carriage at Southampton, and bowing in all directions in response to the tumultuous cheering of the onlookers. He faces the camera for the greater part of the time, and a most excellent portrait is the result. Members of the staff are also seen entering their carriages and being driven rapidly away before the scene changes to London. Here the Royal Procession is first seen, and the various members of the Royal party are easily recognizable. The third portion, taken in another part of London, shows Lord Roberts and staff driving past and receiving London’s tribute of welcome and thanks to Britain’s Hero.

The Era, London, January 26, 1901, p. 31.
