Le cinématographe de John Mackenzie (Public School, 16 décembre 1898)
John Mackenzie présente des vues animées au mois de décembre :
STRATHERRICK-PRIMROSE LEAGUE ENTERTAINMENT.-An excellent entertainment, consisting of an exhibition of the now famous cinematograph and gramophone by Mr J. Mackenzie, Inverness, was given in Stratherrick Public School on Friday last, under the auspices of the local Branch of the Primrose League. Captain Fraser of Farraline occupied the chair, and briefly introduced captain Grant, Ballindarroch, the hon. secretary of the Habitation, who clearly set the objects of the League before the audience, and in a concise and able manner reviewed the present political situation. Thereafter, Mr Mackenzie, for two hours, held the spectators spellbound by the realistic effects of this cinematograph, and we may quote a remark we overheard made by one of the audience when the arrival of a train was being depicted, viz., "O Beaunich miss!" (There'll be an accident), as a proof of the vividness of the production. The programme included the Jubilee procession, the same film, over 60 feet long, being used which delighted so many thousands in the Alhambra, London. Captain Fraser, in proposing a vote of thanks to captain Grant as being the means of bringing such a unique entertainment to this part of the country, remarked that he had seen a like entertainment in London, but Mr Mackenzie's was certainly a much superior exhibition, and he had proved himself a most skilful manipulator. Captain Grant proposed a vote of thanks to Capt. Fraser for occuping the chair, which was very heartily given. The local Warden, Mr Omond, having briefly intimated the flourishing condition of the Stratherrick Branch of the League, and invited those willing to become members to remain and sign the declaration, the National Anthem was sung, and all departed unanimously declaring it was the best entertainment ever given in this part of the country.
