PORTREE-CINEMATOGRAPH ENTERTAINMENT.—The most enjoyable and successful entertainment held here for a long time took place in the Assembly Hall on Thursday evening. It was promoted by the members of the Portree Company of Rifle Volunteers, and through the attendance of the very large audience which was present, a substantial surplus will go to the funds of the Company. The entertainment consisted entirely of the exhibition of animated photographs by the cinematograph and beautiful pictures and effects by the lime-light lantern, these being skilfully manipulated by Mr Mackenzie, optician, Inverness. The Committee were fortunate in securing the services of Mr Mackenzie while he was in Skye. and we should think that the promoters of the entertainment feel satisfied with the result attending their enterprise.

PORTREE.-CINEMATOGRAPH EXHIBITION.-An entertaining cinematograph exhibition was given on Friday by the well known Inverness optician, Mr. John Mackenzie. The exhibition took place in the Skye Gathering Assembly Hall, which contained a large audience. The programme consisted chiefly of cinematograph views of well known recent events, such as Mr Gladstrone's funeral, and incidents in the Spanish-American War, Several gramophone solos and quartettes were rendered at intervals, and were greatly appreciated by those present. After concluding his programme, Mr. Mackenzie was heartily cheered.
