CREATE AN AID FUND
Entertainment For Police dans Fire Department of City.
ARRANGEMENTS MADE TO GIVE IT IN MAYS OPERA HOUSE IN TWO WEEKS.
Moving Pictures of Piqua Fire Department in Action to be Taken Next Wednesday Noon.
Arrangements have been made to give a vaudeville performance at May's opera house Tuesday and Wednesday, the 21st and 22d inst., for the benefit of the Police and Fire Department.
A. M. Stults, representing the Edward Shields Co. was in the city yesterday and today. Last evening at a meeting with Mayor Hughes, the Board of Public Safety and the Chiefs of the Police and Fire Departments he made known his plans and proposition.
The entertainment is one that has been given with success in many places, in the state, Van Wert, Hamilton, Middletown, is to be given at Lima next Sunday and Monday, is to be given at Sidney this week and in other places. An interesting vaudeville program will be given including Illustrated songs and moving pictures.
A leading feature will be a moving picture of the Piqua Fire Department on its way to a fire. Next Wednesday, the 14th inst., a picture of the department will be taken. A run will be made about the noon hour on North Downing street. The film on which the photograph will be taken will be developed and later thrown upon the canvass in the opera house. This is always an interesting and popular feature and takes everywhere it is given.
It is hoped to be able to make enough money out of the entertainment to start a pension or accident fund for the Police and Fire Departments. It is hoped to be able to clear. at least enough for a nest egg which may grow into a fund by later additions for sick or disabled policemen and firemen.
The Mayor and Board of Public Safety are so well satisfied with the plan that they heartily endorse it and commend it.
It is to be hoped that the public will take kindly to it and patronize the entertainment generously. The services given the city by the Police and Fire Departments are worthy a support in this manner by our citizens.

The tickets for the benefit of the Piqua fire and police departments, to be given at May's opera house, will be on sale Monday.
Edward Shields, the manager of the company, was in Piqua today and decided to have the exhibition run of the fire department, from which will be taken the pictures that will be exhibited at the opera house, made on Main street instead of on Downing as at first suggested.
The moving picture camera will be placed on the square and the department will drive to the north end of Main street and be taken as they come south.
The Edward Shields company is a metropolitan attraction that makes specialty of fireman benefits and during the five years Manager Shields has had his attraction on the road benefits have been played from Portland, Maine, to Oregon, including Denver, Chicago and Milwaukee.
In addition to the moving pictures, a fine vaudeville entertainment is promised.
The run of the department will be made at noon, either March 14 or 15. As Mr. Shields' camera has been sent east for repairs he is not sure which day. The date will be announced in due time.
