THE VIEWS
The St. Louis Republic says: "Prospective Klondikers can get a foretaste of their journey into the frozen north, and familiarize themselves with he scenery along the , the arctic traveler and journalist, is giving an account of his trip to the gold fields, illustrated by 150 fine animated views, which cover all routes to Dawson. The lecturer does not go out of his way to boom Klondike. Some people got the inference that Alaska was a good place to stay away from. The entertainment is one of merit and thoroughly deserves the liberal applause it received." Mr. Shields has added the Cuban views and the Destruction of the Maine, to his program and will present them all together, with a good vaudevil a bill, next Wednesday night at Powers'opera house.

THE STAGE
NOVELTY SHOW TONIGHT
The Post-Dispatch says of Edward Shields: "Those meditating seriously upon a trip to Klondike these spring, or desiring to learn the real truth about the country, should attend Hopkins this week, where Edward Shields, an experienced arctic traveler, is presenting an excellent series of views along the Yukon. Mr. Shields has been frequently in Alaska and is familiar with every inch of ground from Dyea to Dawson, either via the passes or the all water route. The lecturer takes his audience over both trails, finds a gold mine for them and instructs them in the science of extracting pay dirt. The view are extremely interesting and instructive, conveying to many the first real idea of the rigors of the Alaskan winter. The entertainment is one of decided merit." Mr. Shields has added the Cuban views since the above was written, so that his performance is now doubly interesting. He appears at Powers' opera house tonight.
