The Oregonian, Portland, jeudi 6 octobre 1898, p. 5.
The Wargraph
The moving pictures of the Oregon volunteers and the warships were better than ever, and the smoke effects from the great guns as they fired their salutes at Grant's tomb were as real as reality itself. Mr. Whiting was in excellent voice, and filled the great music hall very completely, while the moonlight scenes on the water were fully up to the productions of nature. The singing was so good that the audience began to join the chorus.
The Oreganian, Portland, mardi 11 octobre 1898, p. 5.
Le Wargraph d'Edward Shields (The Fredericksburg, 20-28 novembre 1898)

Many familiar faces are depicted, and all are explained in Mr. Shields' inimitable style. Another big feature will be the latest war films, shown with one of Edison's famous wargraphs, The peerless battle-ship Oregon. cruiser New York and Massachusetts, all in action at the great naval parade in New York city, and the Oregon boys leaving for Manila, all shown in live animation. The Sunday Oregonian, Portland, dimanche 20 novembre 1898, p. 3.

CABLE PARK CONCERT.
Special Attraction This Week.
The "Battle of Manila" and other views by Lumiere's cinematographe, showing the manuevers of the fleets and the burning and sinking of the Spanish ships in a manner wonderfully realistic and true to life. Not one of the great crowd who saw them and enjoyed the cool breeze at Cable Park, on Tuesday evening, was disapointed.
The Oregonian, Portland, jeudi 27 juillet 1899, p. 5.

1901
Le Polyscope (The Exposition, 11-19 octobre 1901)
Wonderful Polyscope
For the first time in the Northwest the polyscope was shown last evening at the exposition by Edward Shields. To say that it is wonderful but mildly expresses it. The view of the late President Mc-Kinley making his last speech was true to nature, and was a remarkable reproduction. It will be repeated again this evening.
The Morning Oregonian, Portland, samedi 12 octobre 1901, p. 10.
Un nouvel article donne quelques informations complémentaires :
The polyscope has attracted considerable interest, chiefly because of the fact that one of the films represents the late President McKinley making his last public speech at Buffalo. The films are in excellent condition and show Mr. McKinley with a fidelity that made the scene recognizable to the audience, and its presentation evoked tumultuous applause.
The Oregonian, Portland, mardi 15 octobre 1901, p. 10.
Les séances se prolongent pendant quelques jours.
The Oregonian, Portland, jeudi 17 octobre 1901, p. 11.
Réperfoire (autres titres) : McKinley's last speech, McKinley's funeral procession at Buffalo, Washington and Canton, Niagara Falls (The Oregonian, Portland, mardi 15 octobre 1901, p. 10).
1902
SHIELDS' CONCERT PARK.
Amusement Resort at Thirteenth and Washington, Opens Saturday.
Edward Shields' new amusement park, located on the vacant black, Thirteenth and Washington streets, is practically completed, and will be opened to the public next Saturday night, June 21.
Mr. Shields will offer a strong list of star attractions during the Summer, with an entire change of programme each week. For the opening week Helen Lamar will be the topliner in a gorgeous transformation entitled "Her Last Letter." The Eastern vaudeville managers are calling for original novelties, and this new act was especially constructed for exhibition over the Eastern circuits. It is replete with special scenery, transformations and effects.
Another important feature will be the polyscope, which showed the McKinley funeral pictures at the exposition last Fall. At this time special interest is centered in' the local moving pictures to be presented. Seeing General Summers and the Decoration-day paraders passing in review on a canvas is a decidedly new and unique novelty. In Portland. This film will be exhibited the first week, along with a score of other subjects equally as interesting.
Still another big feature will be the powerful baritone, Harry Edwards, in repertoire of illustrated songs. This name is a nom de plume for an old Portland boy who has never sung in public in this city: before.
Mr. Shields will also have several more, acts for the opening week. He has a score or more on the list to book from and is only waiting to obtain such acts as he thinks will best please the patrons of his park. An orchestra, numbering 10 of the best musicians in the city, has been engaged.
Mr. Shields' past record in Portland as an amusement caterer is well remembered, and his subsequent connection with some of the leading theaters and parks in the East has added to his knowledge of amusement-seekers' wants, and the fact that he is at the head of the new enterprise guarantees its success. With such strong attractions and general admission only 10 cents, the well-seated enclosure will undoubtedly be packed every night. The big opening is awaited with interest.
The Sunday Oregonian, Portland, dimanche 15 juin 1902, p. 21.
The polyscope also "appears in black type" and will be another big feature with its moving picture of the Decoration Day parade in Portland. All of the apparatus for these two big acts was thoroughly tested last evening and Mr. Shields says that he obtained better results than anywhere else, even at the exposition last fall where the polyscope made such a but hit with the McKinley pictures.
The Oregon Daily Journal, Portland, samedi 21 juin 1902, p. 8.
TO OPEN TONIGHT.
Shields' Amusement Park at Thirteenth and Washington Streets.
Edward Shields' new amusement park at Thirteenth and Washington streets will be thrown open to the public tonight, with a very strong opening bill. A full rehearsal was given last evening and all of the electrical machinery thoroughly. tested. The electric company has placed a special wire for the polyscope, and the pictures on that wonderful machine appeared even better last night than they did at the Exposition last Fall. The Decoration day parade film made a big hit with the few spectators Invited to see the rehearsal. This is but one of a number of interesting and comic subjects that will be shown in the moving picture line. The scenery was all placed yesterday, for Helen Lamar's elaborate transformation, entitled, "Her Last Letter." This Is a novelty entirely different from anything that has yet been shown in Portland, and will probably prove an instantaneous hit. The Victorellas, triple-bar experts, and Traviola, novelty juggler and hoop-roller, are the other strong cards. There is a great deal of speculation as to who the well-known Portlander is who is to sing under the name of Harry Edwards. Mr. Shields says he is so. much better than any of singers that he could obtain in the East that he cancelled a contract with a singer he had in Des Molnes last season who expected to be in Portland this Summer. The inclosure has been comfortably seated and it will no doubt be filled to overflowing when the curtain rings up tonight.
The Oregonian, Portland, samedi 21 juin 1902, p. 7.
The Sunday Oregonian, Portland, dimanche 22 juin 1902, p. 19.
BY MR. SHIELDS.
The Last Performance Takes Place Sunday Night.
Tomorrow night marks the close of one of the most successful Park enterprises run anywhere in the United States this summer. Nothing to compare with its success has ever been consummated in Portland before, during a summer season. The place has been crowded night after night and on Sundays the grounds were totally inadequate to hold the people. A special program has been arranged for the closing night. The only hold-over features will be Helen Lamar and the Japs. Miss Lamar will repent the striking transformation, "Her Last Letter," and the Japs will produce one or two acts new in Portland.
One of the new features will be Edward Shields' illustrated talk on the "Life of McKinley." A musical act is another new feature, and Joseph Thompson will repeat two of the best illustrated songs of the summer.

The Oregon Daily Journal, Portland, samedi 2 mai 1903, p. 5.
Roosevelt at Cordray's.
President Roosevelt smiled, bowed, and went through the motion of talking yesterday at Cordray's Theater, on the occasion of a private view to newspaper men of Edward Shields' new polyscope pictures taken when the President recently visited Portland. Par of the procession is shown, and the faces of many well-known persons were noticed in it. Suddenly a band comes in sight, and the slide trombone player is flourishing his instrument. Then comes genial "Billy" Pangle, of the Marquam Theater staff, acting as drummer, and he gives a smile of recognition as if he had instantaneously recognized a friend in the audience. The views of President clear and lifelike, and the representation of his method of delivering a public address is characteristic. The view of the Oregon umbrella brigade is certain to cause lots of laughter. The series of pictures forms a splendid Portland souvenir and will be seen for the first time at Cordray's Theater Sunday during the matinee performance of Shields' vaudeville company.
The Oregonian, Portland, jeudi 4 juin 1903, p. 9.
The Sunday Oregonian, Portland, dimanche 5 juillet 1903, p. 27.
SHIELD'S NEW BILL.
Despite the fact that the big houses are opening their regular fall season, one by one by one, Shields' out-of-door vaudeville continues to draw its full share of attendance. Last night the park was taxed to its capacity and there was not an unoccupied seat in the entire place.
[...]
The polyscope concluded the performance with pictures of Ringling Bros.' circus parade.

Le Polyscope d'Edward Shields (Arcade Theater, 12->20 octobre 1903)
OPENING OF THE ARCADE
Crowded Houses Enjoy Edward Shield's Continuous Vaudeville.
Everybody got his money's worth, to the value of 10 cents each person, who attended the continuous vaudeville shows given last night at the opening of the new Arcade Theater, under the management of Edward Shields, at Seventh and Washington streets.
The Oregonian, Portland, mardi 13 octobre 1903, ,p. 9.
"CONTINUOUS VAUDEVILLE" POPULAR.
Edward Shield's new continuous vaudeville house at Seventh and Washington streets, the Arcade Theatre, is proving extremely popular, and each of the afternoon and evening performances draws packed houses. Houston, the comedy juggler, appeared on the bill last night and made a hit with his clever manipulation of hats, balls and fans. A feature is the colored moving pictures.
