Le Zoegraph de la Modern Marvel Company (Town Hall, 20 février 1897)
Le Zoegraph de la Modern Marvel Company présente des vues animées en février :
THE ZOEGRAPH AND X RAYS IN THE TOWN HALL.-It is a rather remarkable fact that the first visit to Alloa of any entertainment having an elevating and instructive tendency is invariably very indifferently patronised. This was the case in a marked degree on Saturday evening last, when the Modern Marvel Company from Edinburgh made their debut in the Town Hall with exhibitions of two of the most wonderful inventions of modern times, viz., the Zoegraph and the X Rays. There was the usual "beggarly array of empty benches," the audience not numbering more than fifty, though to a certain extent, this was attributable to the entertainment not having been sufficiently advertised. The first part of the entertainment consisted of an exhibition of the Zoegraph, the first of the kind ever shown in Alloa, and an instrument by means of which a series of pictures were shown, moving so smoothly one after another as to give one the impression that it was real life. The opening picture thrown on the screen was one showing the arrival at Charing Cross Station, London, of the Paris express, and the effective manner in which people were seen to enter and leave the train and welcome their friends, being an actual representation fo real life, was received by the audience with the greatest possible pleasure. Other similar pictures had reference to diving competitions, sea effects, cavalry charges, etc., all of which were shown with a distinctness that was really marvellous. The exhibition of the X Rays, which is effecting such a revolution in scientific circles, was also most interesting, articles such as workmen's tools and a watch, which were enclosed in thick wooden boxes, being clearly shown on the screen. The working of the rays was very intelligently described by Mr Robertson, who intimated that the apparatus would be at the service of any medical gentlemen in the town who might have a case on hand where its use would be beneficial. At intervals the entertainment was agreeably diversified by Mr. Jones, who gave a series of caricatures after the Grossmith style, which were really amusing, the "sea-side sketches" especially being most mirth-provoking. At the close of the entertainment Mr Robertson very kindly explained the Zoegraph and the X Rays to a number of gentlemen present, including the Rev. Alex. Bryson, and Drs Milne and Kirkwood, each of whom allowed themselves to be experimented upon with the most satisfactory results. We understand that, taking advantage of the offer made, Dr. Milne arranged with Mr Millar and Mr Robertson, the gentlemen in charge of the entertainment, to visit the County Hospital, in which there are at present several cases in which the X Rays might prove of service. The demonstration, we are informed, was perfectly successful. In one case of fracture of the leg the protrusion of a splint of bone forward was distinctly seen. In a curious case of a crushed elbow the whole parts were clearly defined; and in another case of a broken arm, the same power of the rays was shown to penetrate the soft flesh tissues, and show the bones in dark figure on the fluorescent screen. The apparatus proved to be perfectly adequate for the surgery. The battery was a twelve volt storage one, which, with the induction coil, gave a spark six inches long. This was found quite sufficient to illumine a Crookes Tube of four inches, and also one of eight inches. The light was a beautiful opalescent light, apple green, filling the bulb with a uniform indandescence. The screen used was about 18 in. by 12 in. It is formed by a deposit of Platino Cyanide on cardboard, which is covered with glass for protection, and set in a strong wooden frame. The surgical demonstration was exceedingly interesting. We believe the Company is to return to Alloa in a fortnight hence, and we advice all who wish to pass an interesting or an entertaining evening to make a point of being present.

Le Zoegraph de la Modern Marvel Co. (>3 avril 1897)
Le Zoegraph de la Modern Marvel Co. dont l'un des animateurs est Thomas James West annonce des projections pour le mois d'avril :
RETURN VISIT OF MODERN MARVEL COY.-Whitin the next few days, the public of Alloa will again have an opportunity of seeing the reproductions of the wonderful zoegraph, which is presently with the Modern Marvel Coy. The success with which the Moderne Marvel Coy. The success with which moving, active life, in all its phases, is depicted by this ingenious instrument is truly marvellous, and leads one to exclaim-"What next"? All who would enjoy a very surprising exhibition should avail themselves of this other chance that comes their way of witnessing what the zoegraph can accomplish.
