ANNUAL TREAT TO THE AGED POOR AT LOCKWOOD.-On Saturday the annual treat to the aged and poor in the parish of Lockwood, took place in the National Schools, when over 100 guests assembled (in response to the invitations which had been previously sent out), and were very heartily welcomed. The evening's entertainment commenced with an excellent and well served meat tea, the arrangements for which were admirably superintended by Mrs Girling and Mrs. J. A. Hall, who were ably assisted by other ladies.
[...]
After a brief interval Mr. H. Balmforth [sic], Holmfirth, recommenced the entertainment with an exhibition of "Cinematograph" views. Mr. Balmforth showed nearly 30 films, and the living pictures which were thrown upon the sheet excited much wonder and admiration, and were intensely amusing to the whole company. That this part of the programme was eminently pleasing to the guests, was proved by the expressions of delight and applause which were repeatedly given throughout the exhibition. After a hearty vote of thanks had been accorded to the subscribers who had provided the tea, and to Mrs. J. B. Whiteley for the gift of the parcels and her kind thoughtfulness in defraying the expenses of the "Cinematograph," the proceedings ended with the singing of the Doxology. In taking their departure many and varied were the expressions of thankfulness, delight, and satisfaction made by the guests, which may be summed up in the characteristic remark of one old lady, who said, "this is t' best do we ivver had."

CHURCH SALE OF WORK AT LOCKWOOD
Like many other parishes in this neighbourhood, that of Lockwood relies to a not inconsiderable extent for the supply of the material wealth with which parochial organisations are maintained in action, upon an annual sale of work. This effort has been increasingly successful as the years have rolled on, and the good influence exerted by the regular meetings of those interested in the work of the parish-has consequently been greatly extended. The sale which was duly held in the schoolroom, on Wednesday afternoon and evening, aroused increased interest.

The young men's class undertook a fruit stall, with ice creams, and some children of the congregation also provided a sweet stall, and in addition there were entertainments consisting of two new exhibitions of the cinematograph by Mr. H. Bamforth, of Holmfirth, and one of illustrated songs, assisted by members of the church choir.

GATHERING OF OLD FOLKS AT LOCKWOOD
The third annual gathering of the old people of Lockwood and district sixty years of age and upwards was held on Saturday last.
[...]
While a number of the guests were waiting their turn for tea, Mr. Statber (organist of the Lockwood Baptist Chapel) artistically rendered selections on the organ, and highly delighted his listeners. After having partaken of tea, the company repaired to the Bentley Street United Methodist Free Church School-room, which was made very cosy and attractive, and where they were entertained until the commencement of the concert with an excellent cinematograph exhibition of "living pictures," by Mr. Harry Balmforth, of Holmfirst. The exhibition caused much amusement, and the various "scenes" were loudly applauded. A smoke-room was also provided under the charge of Mr. A. Jordinson, who assiduously catered for the lovers of the weed.

GATHERING OF OLD FOLKS AT LOCKWOOD
On Saturday last, the fourth annual gathering of the aged people of Lockwood and district was held. Five hundred invitations had been issued to people of all classes, rich and poor, who were sixty years of age and upwards, and there was a good response.
The gathering last year took place on Saturday, January 18th [sic], and although the weather was most boisterous, was an unprecedented success in every way. Tea was served in the Baptist Schoolroom, and was partaken of by 405 persons, whilst exactly fifty teas were sent to those too ill or infirm to attend. Between tea and concert Mr. H. Bamforth, of Holmfirth, exhibited living pictures in Bentley Street Schoolromm, which afforded both pleasure and amusement. As in previous years, pipes and tobacco were provided, and also two Jaffa oranges were handed to each person.
