The Karban or Buffalo of Borneo

The water buffalo is the mostuseful of animals to the natives of Borneo.·Where there is any level road and a cart can be used, the buffalo is put in the shafts ; its milk is good and rich. Up country they are used for ploughing and tramping the ground ready for Paddy, and the family will ride home on the beasts back at the end of the day. They are at home in and out of water, and are happiest of all when buried in a '' wallow'' of rich soft mud.
