MAYORS' SUNDAY.
SOUTH SHIELDS.
Yesterday morning, the New Mayor of South Shields (Coun. T. D. Marshall) attended service at St. Hilda's Church, and accompanied the members and officials of the Corporation and other public bodies, and an unusually large number of townspeople. The procession was formed from the the Police Buildings, were the Chief Constable (Mr. Morant) had charge the marshalling arrangements. The police band led the way and then came the members of the fire brigade, the Northumberland Hussars, members of the Coastguard and South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade, and the River Tyne Police, under the direction of Supt. Farmer. Then followed the Mayor in his robes and chain of office and he was attended by the Town Clerk, Mr J. Moore Hayton, and the Deputy-Mayor (Ald. Imrie), the members of the Corporation, magistrates, members of the Board of Guardians, School Board and Burial Board, Freemasons, members of Friendly Societies, and of the clubs connected with the Durham Bowling Greens Association, the general public, and the borough police, the latter bringing up the rear.
