Branding Cattle

Taken at Hacienda de Soledad, Sabinas, Mexico, and shows a number of Mexican cowboys, clad in their typical costumes, going through the semi-yearly routine of branding stock. A large refractory steer is lassoed, dragged from the herd to the fire and forcibly thrown to the ground. The red-hot irons are then applied, deeply burning the brand letters into his hide, the smoke from the burning hair and hide showing distinctly. After the branding is completed the steer is permitted to rise and is drawn around by the cowboys until the branded side is towards the audience, when the newly made letters are plainly distinguished. This is a sharp, clear film, is a true reproduction, and will prove a subject of unusual interest.

Mr. James White and his able assistant, Mr. Fred W. Blechynder, left this city last night for an extended trip over the Central system. These gentlemen are representing the Edison Electrical Company, of Orange, N.J., and are taking views of characteristic Mexico, for reproduction in the company's kinetescopes, which will be exhibited in the United States.
