Le cinématographe de John Mackenzie (Schoolroom, 23 février 1899)
John Mackenzie présente des vues animées au mois de février :
THE CINEMATOGRAPH AT CONTIN. -Through arrangements kindly made by Sir A. G. R. Mackenzie, Bart. of Coul, with Mr Mackenzie, optician, Inverness, a cinematograph and gramophone entertainment was given in the Schoolroom here on Thursday. The object in view was to obtain funds in aid of the school soup kitchen, while providing the people of the district with one of the latest novelties. The schoolroom was well filled. Miss Mackenzie of Coul, who was present, having intimated, through Mr Macglashan, that Sir Arthur regretted his inability, owing to indisposition, to attend, the chair was taken by Rev. Mr Macrae. Mr Mackenzie’s long and varied programme highly delighted the audience, who showed their appreciation of the treat presented to them by frequent rounds of applause. At the close the Chairman moved vote of thanks to the exhibitor, and alluded to Sir Arthur’s kind and unwearied efforts in behalf of so good cause. A vote of thanks to the Chairman, moved by Rev. Mr Cameron, concluded the proceedings. That afternoon, through Sir Arthur’s kindness, the same exhibition was shown in tho Schoolroom to the children of the Contin and Scatwell schools free of charge, the pupils of the latter school being conveyed to and from Contin in a brake provided by the hon. Baronet.
